The latest android-figures

Late last night had Google a meeting where financial performance in the second quarter of this year was discussed. Besides all these financial matters (in short Google is doing wellCEO Larry Page made a few announcements about Android, and there we can only conclude that Android is growing very fast.

New figures
About two weeks ago Andy Rubin, the man behind Android, announced that Google activated 500,000 Android phones per day. After  two weeks again, Google activate 550,000  Androiddevices per day. The growth in the number of activated units per day goed fast:

  • May 2010: 100 000 activations per day
  • June 2010: 160,000 activations per day
  • August 2010: 200,000 activations per day
  • December 2010: 300,000 activations per day
  • End June 2011: 500,000 activations per day
  • Mid July 2011: 550 000 activations per day

Andy Rubin said in his tweet that Android is growing about 4.4% per week. This percentage is pretty similar to the figures presented yesterday by Larry Page.
Besides the fact that there are a lot of Android devices that are activated, the Market is growing. Two days ago, Google introduced a new version of the Market app. Today let Google know that there are already stand 250,000 apps in the Marketwhich are downloaded 6 billion times.

Android 3.0 and 3.1 are a small growth, about 1% of the units have one of these versions.
